Boston Red Sox

According to The Boston Herald, the Boston Red Sox are keeping tabs on SP Daisuke Matsuzaka, who is working out in Japan in advance of the World Baseball Classic, which begins March 5. Matsuzaka recently threw a simulated game. “We pretty much get an update every day,” manager Terry Francona said. “We’ve had contact with him, talked to him on the phone the other day. I think everything’s going very well. There’s some dialogue every day, they send a report on what he did so we’re up to date.”

Our Instinct:  Having over $100mm tied up in him, the Red Sox want to know when he passes gas and how much was passed while pitching for Japan in the WBC.  Don’t count on more than 14 wins and 160 k’s out of Matsuzaka this season and 490 points/$15 value.  Though, you can depend on someone from Red Sox nation to pay $20-$25 – don’t let that be you.
