Padres | Silva to try out
by George Utter on February 20, 2009

Tom Krasovic, of The San Diego Union-Tribune, reports free-agent SP Walter Silva (Mexican League) will have a six-week tryout for the San Diego Padres. The Padres will pay Silva’s Mexican League team $400,000 if they decide to keep Silva on their roster. Silva is viewed as a candidate for the No. 5 rotation spot or long reliever.
Our Instinct: The Yankees have also shown interest in the 32 year old right-hander. Last year New York signed Alfredo Aceves from the Mexican League and it worked out fairly nicely. Both teams are hoping for the same sort of sucess again. Neither Aceves or Silva offer much in terms of fantasy production.
