Rays | McGee throws off mound
by Thomas Belmont on February 24, 2009

The St. Petersburg Times’ Marc Topkin reports Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake McGee (elbow) threw off a mound for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last season.
Our Instinct: McGee was the #1 lefty in TB before Price came to town. After the long layoff and rehab from TJ surgery his outlook is less bright but not dim by any means. Big upside blocked by alot of rotation arms in TB. Expect TB to give McGee a rotation spot in High-A and move him along to Double-A by the end of the year. Odds are that he eventually finds his way into Tampa Bays bullpen as a power lefty.

Good to see the kid is back and throwing. I like his stuff and hope he stays a starter.
the days of Jake being a top 15 prospect seem so long ago……..
I have all but given up on him being a cornerstone of my rotation
Good to see him healthy though
