Marlins | Sanchez alters mechanics
by Thomas Belmont on February 25, 2009

The Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson reports Florida Marlins SP Anibal Sanchez altered his mechanics this winter after watching tape from 2006. “My shoulder is more loose than last year and my command is better,” Sanchez said.
Our Instinct: Sanchez is coming back from labrum surgery which is a nightmare for a pitcher. I would feel more confident in a return to peak performance if he had torn his UCL and had TJ surgery. The fact that he thinks shoulder feels better to this point that he feels raising his arm slot back to high 3/4 is a good sign. Keep a close eye on his rotation spot. He won’t rack up the innings in 2009 but should have a good k/9ratio if he is healthy. Good end gamer with upside, venture a few auction dollars and you might have a SP that can boost your year end production.

And, since he’s only 25, if you can get him cheap and he turns out ok this year, he could make for a nice keeper going forward.
