Andrew Baggarly, of The Mercury News, reports San Francisco Giants SS Eugenio Velez is seeing more and more time as an outfielder in Spring Training and is likely to take free-agent OF Dave Roberts’ (Giants) place as the utility outfielder this season. Velez is likely out of the competition at second base as a result.
Our Instinct: Velez probably won’t be of any value unless he can find 450 ab’s between the infield and outfield. 350 ab’s seems more likely, so don’t bother with him on auction day.
