Nationals | D. Cabrera struggles with control Friday
by George Utter on March 7, 2009
Washington Nationals SP Daniel Cabrera allowed one run on four hits over two innings Friday, March 6, against the Baltimore Orioles, according to The Associated Press. He walked two and struck out two. However, only 24 of his 46 pitches were strikes and he allowed four stolen bases. Nationals pitching coach Randy St. Claire has been working with Cabrera to lengthen his stride before throwing, which may have contributed to Baltimore’s ability to steal bases with little difficulty.
Our Instinct: I’m sure fielding behind Cabrera for the last several years had nothing to do with them running on him either. Cabrera is fringe contributor to your lineup, if you get him for $1-$3, you’ll be fine with him. If you spend more and expect more, well, you get what you get and need to be slapped repeatedly.
