Anthony Castrovince, of MLB.com, reports Cleveland Indians 1B Ryan Garko received the start Tuesday, March 10, in right field. Garko was previously expected to play only in left field in Spring Training. However, Garko is not expected to see much time in right field during the regular season.
Our Instinct: Some parks actually play bigger to the left field side as opposed the field side, which allows Garko to be in the lineup when Victor Martinez, Kelly Shoppach, and Travis Hafner are. He can play the smaller field allowing his arm to be less of a liability. Eric Wedge is pretty smart from the stand point of trying to keep the best bats in the lineup at all times. Garko could hit .295-74-17-92-0. Thats not overly impressive as a 1b, but with 1b-of-ci-dh eligibility he makes for a decent starter on your fantasy team. He could prove to be a $15-$19 value, but you shouldn’t want to pay over $10 for him.
