Diamondbacks | Garland tinkering with pitches
by George Utter on March 21, 2009
Nick Piecoro, of The Arizona Republic, reports Arizona Diamondbacks SP Jon Garland has refined his curveball and has added a cut fastball to his repertoire this season. He thinks he has had enough practice using the pitches this spring to be able to use his new pitches during the regular season.
Our Instinct: Garland stands to improve his numbers over last year by switching to the national league. If he refines that curveball into a useful pitch he could be a 15 game winner. While I wouldnt suggest building your staff around him, theres no reason to think he won’t be useful in the middle of your rotation. He could produce $15-$18 in value and undoubtedly could be had in the $8-$10 range.
