Diamondbacks | Qualls throwing more splitters
by George Utter on April 4, 2009
Nick Piecoro, of The Arizona Republic, reports Arizona Diamondbacks RP Chad Qualls has been throwing more splitters this spring. “Since I have a hard slider and a hard sinker, I wanted something like a changeup that was a little bit slower and can throw their timing off,” Qualls said.
Our Instinct: Qualls should post about 70 k’s in 70 ip, while having about a 3.00 era , a 1.20 whip, and save about 35 games. He should be worth about $15 in auction leagues. If the splitters are effective, he could be a nice surprise in most formats.
