Braves | Lowe shines in eight-inning gem
by George Utter on April 5, 2009
The Associated Press reports Atlanta Braves SP Derek Lowe, in his first start with his new team, lasted eight innings and surrendered just two hits as the Braves topped the Philadelphia Phillies, 4-1, Sunday, April 5.
Our Instinct: Well, maybe he is worth $60 million. Lowe was ridiculous tonight. In addition to only allowing 2 hits in 8 innings, he didn’t walk a batter and struck out 4. What was impressive is that of the modest 97 pitches he threw, 66 of them were for strikes. While this performance doesn’t make him a CY Young candidate, it’s pretty safe to say play him while hes hot and against the Nationals in Atlanta next weekend.
