According to Dave George of the Palm Beach Post, Emilio Bonifacio, the Marlins’ new leadoff hitter, had four hits in this 12-6 romp over Washington. He also had the first inside-the-parker in the major leagues on opening day since Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski did it 41 years ago. He had never done that before.
Our Instinct: He also had 3 stolen bases, making this a HUGE fantasy day for Bonifacio. Manager Fredi Gonzalez looks pretty smart after today, something in which most of us questioned after many of the Marlins moves in the past week or so. Continue to ride Bonifacio in the lead off role, though it’s never too early after a game like this to consider selling high.
