According to Kevin Scarpati of the Daily Aztec, SP Stephen Strasburg, The Aztec’s designated opening-series starter threw another gem against the Rebels, throwing six innings of one-run ball while striking out 13 and walking just a single batter.
Our Instinct: “I’d say my fastball command was pretty good (Thursday),” Strasburg said. “I was able to pound down in the zone.”
Head coach Tony Gwynn had his own take on what made Strasburg so good at a notorious hitter-friendly park.
“It’s a hitter’s park, the wind was blowing out tonight and usually (UNLV) is going to score some runs,” Gwynn said. “But with Strassy on the hill, (Rebel hitters) were a little bit tardy tonight.”
A little Tardy? Rebel hitters could of started swinging their bats a couple of weeks ago and not caught up with Strasburgs heat and pin-point accuracy Thursday Night. For you Baseball Instinct owners drooling all over yourself, this was a 44 point outing. Now granted, these are college hitters that hes mowing down, but some of them are pretty good and theres a LOT of Major leaguers who won’t catch up to him. He’s already a better bet than Tim Lincecum. Despite Lincecum’s early struggles this season, the CY Young winner is an elite pitcher. Strassy is just better.
If the Nationals pass on him because of the money and he goes on to win the Rookie of the Year award – this season, with the Mariners, they will be the 3rd franchise to fold up shop in the nationals capital.

Ill trade Lincecum for Strasburg….keep that in mind whoever gets the #1 overall farm pick or grabs him this season!
