Braves | Glavine to have arm examined
by George Utter on April 14, 2009
Mark Bowman, of MLB.com, reports Atlanta Braves SP Tom Glavine (shoulder) will have his arm examined by Dr. James Andrews Wednesday, April 15. He will now miss his first scheduled start Saturday, April 18, against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Our instinct: I’ve often thought this year that this should be the end of the line for the 43 year old Glavine. Visiting Dr. Andrews is never good news for anyone except Andrews’ accountant. That being said, it may be time for Glavine to ride off into the sunset and go into the hall of fame in 2014 with a potentially amazing group. Greg Maddux will be there for sure. Curt Shilling and Mike Mussina should get in. This group could include Glavine, Frank Thomas and Pedro Martinez. There’s little doubt that those 3 will get in, when is the only question.
