The Kansas City Star reports Kansas City Royals 3B Alex Gordon (hip) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, April 16, with a tear in his right hip labral cartilage. He will undergo surgery Friday, April 17. Gordon injured his hip sliding into second base Saturday, April 11, and aggravated it later in the game. There is no timetable for his return after surgery.
Our instinct: Are hip surgeries for third basemen the new Tommy John for pitchers? Seems like it’s en vogue to have it now. Gordon should be able to start rehabing pretty quickly, and should be back before the all-star break.
