Athletics | SP Dallas Braden ponders amputation
by George Utter on February 21, 2010
The San Francisco Chronicle’s Susan Slusser reports Oakland Athletics SP Dallas Braden (foot) is still experiencing problems with his left foot, as a result of nerve damage resulting from treatments for an infection. “It’s definitely still tingly and numb,” Braden said. “The biggest positive is that the shooting pain isn’t there as often.” However, he said he would pitch through the pain, claiming that “nothing short of amputation” would keep him off the field.
Our Instinct: WOW! How many things in that scare the hell out of you? Tingly. Numb. Shooting Pain. Amputation?!? OK, I’m being a bit dramatic, but yikes! Braden is at best an end-of-rotation option, with all of his limbs.
