Updating previous reports, New York Mets C Rod Barajas received a one-year deal worth $1 million, along with the opportunity to earn an additional $1 million in easily attainable incentives, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com. Both the Mets and Texas Rangers had offered Barajas minor league deals, the latter of which had been worth $1.5 million, according to sources. However, the Mets upgraded their offer to a major league deal Friday, Feb. 19, ensuring that the money would be guaranteed. The team will need to designate a player for assignment in order to make room for Barajas on the 40-man roster.
Our Instinct: Barajas did hit 19 hr’s last year while batting a sad .229 for the Blue Jays. He’s not going to get any better and unless you are in the deepest leagues with 2 catchers, there’s no reason for him to be on your roster, unless you’re mother. In which case, my apologies.
