Cardinals | SS Felipe Lopez not in the cards
by George Utter on February 22, 2010
St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said the team would explore the trade market if they need help finding a shortstop to replace injured SS Brendan Ryan (wrist), according to The St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Joe Strauss. This likely means the club’s pursuit of free-agent IF Felipe Lopez (Brewers) is over.
Our Instinct: It appears that Tony LaRussa i confident that Ryan will be ready for opening day, if not shortly after. There’s talk that they will use Julio Lugo if Ryan isn’t ready. Felipe Lopez still has suitors, including the Padres.
