The News Journal’s Scott Lauber reports Philadelphia Phillies OF Raul Ibanez (groin) said he is feeling much better following sports hernia surgery last November. He will not be restricted from any activities at spring training camp and said the sports hernia did not affect his play in the second half of last season.
Our Instinct: Ibanez got off to a smoking start last season and actually looked like an MVP contender in his 1st season with the Phillies. He can be humble and say what he wants about the hernia not affecting his 2nd half performance, but he only hit .232-12-33 in 64 2nd half games. He finished the season with a .272-34-93. At age 37, hes’ not going to get any better, but you can depend on to be solid if hes’ healthy.
