The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s David O’Brien reports Atlanta Braves OF Nate McLouth was fitted for contacts in the offseason and said there’s a noticeable difference, especially seeing at night. He acknowledged he couldn’t see the catcher clearly from center field but didn’t want to see an eye doctor in the middle of a season.
Our Instinct: Anytime that you hear about a player’s vision improving, that’s a good thing. McLouth enters the season as Atlanta’s center fielder. He hit .256-20-70-86-19 last season.
BI Precision: The 28 year old McLouth hit .276-26-94-113-23 in 2008 with the Pirates. He got caught stealing 6 times out of 25 times last season as opposed to 3 times out 26 tries in 2008, and he had 27 doubles in 2009 compared to 43 in 2010. Clearly the vision problems hampered him last season. McLouth can be a top 25 outfielder and a bounce back candidate for the upcoming season.
Nate McLouth is ranked 26th on our outfield list. Here’s a look at our projections:

This season presents a different opportunity than the previous two. In 2008, McLouth was widely a bargain for $5 or under and over performed. In 2009 he was a let down and went for for $25+ in many auctions. This year should present an opportunity to be right in the middle. If you can get him for under $15, then he’s a great value buy. I can’t recommend over spending on this player unless you have good built in value on your team.
