Reds | SP Aroldis Chapman Flashes Fastball

by Thomas Belmont on March 13, 2010

Cincinatti RedsCincinnati Reds LHP Aroldis Chapman
struck out 2 in 2 innings of relief work against the Dodgers yesterday. The outing brings him to 4 Ks in 4 IP on the Spring. His fastball was once again clocked at near 100mph.

Our Instinct: Chapman’s blazing fastball has been on display and he’s quickly becoming a fan favorite amongst Reds fans. He is however still erratic with his slider control. Once Chapman can find a consistent release point for his slider that matches his fastball release he should move quickly and secure a rotation spot in Cincinnati. He has Ace potential but you have to remember how young he still is. He’s already at #49 on our Baseball Instinct Top 100 Prospects List. Keep an eye out for his prospect breakdown coming soon.
