Doug Miller of MLB.com reports that the Mariners liked what they saw of Michael Saunders in a brief Major League call-up in 2009, but the team’s outfield full of veterans got too crowded for the 23-year-old, who will start the 2010 season at Triple-A Tacoma.
Our Instinct: It was thought that he might stick around as a reserve outfielder, but Jack Z. is wise in sending him to Tacoma where he can play every day. Saunders has a future on fantasy rosters, but that future isn’t now. An injury to Eric Byrnes or Milton Bradley will need to happen for him to make it back to Seattle anytime soon. Check out our Project Instinct: Top 100 prospects for Michael Saunders and others.
