Chicago Cubs 2B Mike Fontenot moved to the bench so that SS Ryan Theriot could slide over to 2B when the Cubs called up SS Starlin Castro. He hit a pinch hit grand slam in the 8th inning.
Our Instinct: Fontenot is hitting .306, but it’s a very empty average. He has 3 extra base hits and the grand slam brough him up to 10 rbi and 6 runs in 72 ab’s. Starlin Castro’s major league debut with a triple, hr, and 6 6 rbi is probably a pretty good indication that Fontenot belongs as the super utility guy.
