Seattle Mariners 2B prospect Dustin Ackley went 2-3 with his 8th double of the season raising his season average to a disappointing .216.
Our Instinct: I’m sticking with my preseason ranking on Ackley. I noted that he was going to be learning a new position at 2B and the struggles at the plate could very well be connected. He is not showing the same plate discipline that was expected of him and thus the struggles haven’t subsided. Once he is comfortable at 2B I think the plate approach will come back and the elite hitter will reemerge. Anyone expecting elite power because he played 1B in college wasn’t paying attention. He’s not a 1B prospect.
