Orioles | SP Jake Arrieta punches out four Tuesday night
by David Reiffer on July 7, 2010
Baltimore Orioles SP Jake Arrieta throws six innings of one-run ball with 4 k’s against the Detroit Tigers Tuesday night. He left the game poised for a win but Detroit rallied in the late innings to win 7-5.
Our Instinct: Certainly a promising effort from the young hurler. Arrieta did wonders with only a two pitches really working last night: a low to mid-90′s fastball and a solid slider that he kept low in the zone. Keep in mind though that a major league starter with only two pitches working is walking a very fine line. Arrieta will need perfect his changeup and command because the hitter knows it’s an either/or situation. Unfortunately, the knock on this kid has always been his command. So the improvement he showed in AAA will hopefully carry over for him. For more info on Arrieta, check out our 2010 Prospect List.
