Toronto Blue Jays SP Ricky Romero brought his winless streak up to five games Friday night by getting crushed for nine runs (five earned) in 2.1 innings of work. The Red Sox ended up winning 14-3.
Our Instinct: The last two games started by Romero were against the Yankees and Red Sox. He had given up 13 runs in all between those two games. Not to worry though, Boston and New York will do that to a pitcher. Romero has improved nearly every facet of his game compared to his eye-opening effort in 2009. Lower era, huge bump in strikeouts. The young lefty will do just fine. That said, this may be a time to buy low on him. After the All Star break, Romero gets Baltimore, Kansas City, and Cleveland. Let’s call that a slump-buster.
