Mariners | RHP Prospect Blake Beavan acquired from Rangers
by Thomas Belmont on July 10, 2010
1B Justin Smoak and Minor Leaguer’s SP Blake Beavan, SP Josh Lueke and SP Matt Lawson were acquired from the Texas Rangers for SP Cliff Lee and RP Mark Lowe on Friday.
Our Instinct: Beavan is the prize prospect in the Cliff Lee deal, but Beavan is far from a prized prospect. His numbers in Triple A look enticing at 10-5 with a sub 3.oo ERA, but he doesn’t strike out many batters and it’s questionable if he’ll be able to make it through major league batting orders more than once. We’re looking at rotation filler at best in Beavan and the Mariners left many young Rangers arms unclaimed in the Lee Sweepstakes.
