Indians | SP Giovanni Soto Cleveland bound

by David Reiffer on July 30, 2010

Cleveland IndiansFormer West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers) SP Giovanni Soto got traded to the Indians for major league 3b Johnny Peralta on Wednesday.  Soto should report to Low A Lake County Captains in the Midwest League as an addition to their starting rotation.

Our Instinct:  Detroit needed another stick for their injury-depleted line-up.  It is arguable that Peralta will provide the punch they need or not.  Cleveland, on the other hand, made a nice little deal for a young lefty with some potential, but also needs considerable development.  Check our Prospect Instinct article for more info on young Giovanni.  He also made Tommie’s list of promising Midwest league pitchers.

Moments after I kinda slam the Peralta deal, Johnny hits a homerun in his first at bat as a Tiger. Figures.

I believe I would still rather have Soto.
