Chicago Cubs SP Thomas Diamond tried Ted Lilly’s rotation spot on for size and it fit nice. The right-hander went 6 innings, giving up 3 runs, and struck out a whopping 10 batters in a losing effort against Milwaukee.
Our Instinct: As a Texas farmhand, Diamond had a low-to-mid 90′s heater. Last night, Diamond topped out at 90 mph, but threw all his pitches (curve, slider, and change-up) for strikes, keeping the Brewers off balance all night. This was his first major league start so don’t go crazy, but someone who can rack up 10 k’s is not your usual free agent pool fodder. Pick him up in deeper mixed leagues.
