Mariners | SP Felix Hernandez hard luck loser again

by George Utter on September 23, 2010

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez gave up a solo hr in the 1st inning on Thursday to Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista and that would be the difference in the game as the Jays won 1-0.  King Felix gave up one run and two hits Thursday in an 8 inning complete game. He struck out five and walked four.

Our Instinct:  Felix is 12-12 with a 2.31 era, 227 k’s, and 68 walks.  Statistically, he’s the best pitcher in the American League, but the fact that he only has 12 wins compared to New York Yankees SP C.C. Sabathia’s 20, and he won’t win the CY Young award.  At 24 years old, expect the King to win his share of CY Young awards.

Cardinals | 1B Albert Pujols hits 2 bombs

by George Utter on September 23, 2010

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Albert Pujols went 3 for 4 with 2 hr’s, 3 rbi, and 3 runs scored in a 9-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday.

Our Instinct:  The 30 year old Pujols is hitting .309 with 41 hr’s, 112 rbi, 108 runs, and 8 sb.  Ring up his 4th National League MVP award.  He’s averaged 40 hr’s over 10 seasons and if theres any question who the best player in the game is, well, there shouldn’t be.

Blue Jays | OF Jose Bautista hits 50th home run

by George Utter on September 23, 2010

Toronto Blue JaysToronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista went 1 for 2 with a solo hr in a 1-0 win over the Seattle Mariners on Thursday.

Our Instinct:  Bautista is hitting .265 with 50 hr’s, 115 rbi, 102 runs, 102 runs, and 8 sb.  Anybody who tells you that they saw this or anything remotely close to this coming from Bautista is a damn dirty liar.  A side from Albert Pujols, Bautista has been the next best fantasy position player this season.  He might edge out Miguel Cabrera for the MVP award.

by Sean O'Neill September 19, 2010

The Yankees’ newest starting pitcher, Ivan Nova was never really considered much of a prospect. However, after a posting a 12-3 record with a 2.86 ERA for AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Nova suddenly started getting a lot of press and then a call up in late August. The question is: what does the future hold for Ivan Nova?

Diamondbacks | OF Justin Upton not quite ready

by George Utter September 12, 2010

Arizona Diamondbacks OF Justin Upton pinch ran Saturday, however was not ready to be a starter on Sunday.

Our Instinct:  Well, he certainly looked pretty good stealing a base Saturday night.  Expect him back in the lineup early in the week.  The 23 year old is hitting ..275 with 17 hr’s, 68 rbi, 73 runs, and 16 sb’s.  It’s a step back to be sure, but don’t let that fool you.  He will be the most coveted player in baseball in the years to come.

Chicago White Sox 1B Paul Konerko went 3 for 4 with 2 hr’s, 5 rbi, and 3 runs scored on Sunday as the Chicago White Sox pounded the Kansas City Royals 12-6.

Our Instinct:  Konerko is 5 for 7 with 3 hr’s and 6 rbi this weekend.  He’s hitting .322 with 36 hr’s, 104 rbi, and 85 runs over 497 ab’s.  He has a shot at career highs in average, hr’s, rbi, and runs.  He’s a legit AL MVP candidate.

Astros | OF Hunter Pence hits home run

by George Utter September 12, 2010

Houston Astros OF Hunter Pence went 3 for 4 with hr and 2 rbi as the Astros beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-4 on Sunday.

Our Instinct:  Pence is hitting .288 with 24 hr’s, 84 rbi, 88 runs, and 18 sb over 545 ab’s.  At 27 he’s on pace for career high’s in almost every category and there’s no reason to think he won’t be even better next season.  He may have a 30/30 season in him before it’s all said and done.

by George Utter September 12, 2010

Milwaukee Brewers SP Yovani Gallardo pitched 7 innings of 4 hit, 3 walk, and no run ball in defeating the Chicago Cubs 2-0 on Sunday.  He also struck out 6.

Our Instinct:  Gallardo improves to 12-7 with a 3.64 era, 181 k’s, and 70 walks in 168 innings pitched.  The 24 year old from Michoacan, Mexico is solidifying himself as a top 20 to 25 pitcher.  He will have quite a bit of value on auction day 2011.
