I’ll break down my Moore review into hard data (as much I can give reliably) and some brief subjective observations:

PITCH SELECTION AND QUALITY:
In innings 1-4, he balanced the changeup and the fastball pretty evenly, although the fastball was almost exclusively his out pitch. It was, certainly, his out pitch for all or almost all of his seven K’s.

Inning five saw him firing fastballs almost exclusively, as he must’ve been fully aware that it was his last inning. It would be bad wording to call it “leaning” on the fastball, though; he just knew Toledo couldn’t touch it and that he was in his last inning. I’d be interested to know if the fifth inning pitch selection was his decision or dictated by management/catcher.

The 2011 MLB draft signing deadline has passed, but it did not do so quietly. With about 5 minutes left until the midnight deadline, more than 20 1st round picks had yet to be signed, or shall we say, yet to be announced. At this time, I can only confirm that 1 first rounder did not sign; Starting pitcher Tyler Beede who was selected with pick #21 by the Toronto Blue Jays. Beede, who asked not to be drafted and held to his word and is going to go to Vanderbilt. Seattle Mariners failed to sign 3rd round pick 1B Kevin Cron who is taking his power bat to Texas Christian University. The Florida Marlins also failed in their bid to sign 3rd round pick SS Connor Barron.

As we reported a couple of days ago, Washington Nationals starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg made his first rehabilitation start for the Low-A Hagerstown Suns as they took on the Greensboro Grasshoppers Sunday afternoon. Strasburg was limited to 31 pitches in this outing, 25 of which he threw for strikes. MLB.com reported that he hit a high of 98 mph and the Washington Post reports that he hit 97 mph "consistently" during his 1 and 2/3 innings. Strasburg gave up a solo home run on 3 hits, while walking none and striking out 4.
