About: I was born and raised in NYC. My father was a diehard Yankees fan but not biased and raised me to love the game more than any one team. For that I'm truly thankful to him. My life consists of my Family and Baseball. After 25 years in New York I moved to South Florida and found a love for the minor leagues and with that came my love for prospecting. Some call it Scouting. I just call it fun.See Authors Posts (34).

TB Jeremy Hellickson SP is not battling for a rotation or bullpen spot, however he showed why he's one of the top flight arms in the minors yesterday throwing 1.1 perfect innings while striking out 4.
Our Instinct: Baseball Instinct's top 100 prospect Jeremy Hellickson still has some work to do and will start in the AAA rotation, but he's not far off from being ready.

Baseball Instinct's top 100 prospect Jake Arrieta SP BAL threw an inning of work giving up a 3 runs while walking one and striking out 2.
Our Instinct: He's going to need a lights out spring to crack the Orioles' rotation. His strikeout potential isn't in question at this point, but he'll need to reign in his bb% and will need some additonal AAA time to really refine his command.

WAS Stephen Strasburg SP made his Spring Training debut Tuesday, going 2 innings and striking out 2.
Our Instinct: Baseball Instinct top 100 prospect Stephen Strasburg worked out of a 2nd inning jam and worked at 96-98mph throughout the appearance and dropped a couple of hammer curveballs as well. He was solid and looked every bit the part of a stud in the making. Check out our Prospect Instinct: Stephen Strasburg breakdown.

SF Posey, Buster C is only hitting .273 so far on the spring but did hit his first HR of the spring yesterday showing off his power potential. Its pretty much a given at this point that he will open the season in the majors as the backup to Benji Molina.
Our Instinct: He will get some action at some other positions as well. The development time with Molina will be a great benefit to Posey. Check out our Prospect Instinct: Buster Posey breakdown.

OAK Chris Carter 1B is doing his best to hold onto the 1B job in Oakland by hitting .300 and posting his second double yesterday.
Our Instinct: He should be able to hold off any of the less proven competition and his power gives him excellent upside in a lineup that needs a power bat.

There were questions coming into Spring Training with the catcher situation for the Mets. They had a hard time finding a solid option to take the job, but the do have NYM Josh Thole C ready in the minors who could be a servicable option and so far this spring he's hitting .500 with a couple of doubles.
Our Instinct: He has very limited power, but is a disciplined hitter with some doubles power that could take at least a backup role out of Spring Training.

NYM Ike Davis 1B is putting up a little bit of a statement so far this spring to stake his claim to 1B job. He's hitting .524 with 2 HR's.
Our Instinct: The competition is currently between David Murphy and Mike Jacobs it could very well happen that the future is now for Davis. His raw power is questionable as to actually translating to the highest level, but if he proves in spring that its legit it will be tough to hold him back. His upside is as an average 1B with good power and a good glove.

DET Austin Jackson CF is taking advantage of his opportunity to be the man for the Tigers in CF in 2010. He's off to a torrid .538 start on the spring and hit his first 2B (1) and HR (1) Tuesday.
Our Instinct: He has the speed to be a leadoff hitter and just needs to refine his baserunning to get the most out of his raw speed. He looks on target to take the job out of spring training but expect some growing pains for him in 2010 as he matures as a player.

ATL Jason Heyward RF had another 1-2 day and has shown exellent power and plate discipline so far this spring and is leaving little doubt that he's ready to take over the RF job in Atlanta right now.
Our Instinct: Heyward is making it tough for the Braves to justify sending him down. Another week should be a clear indication of their plans for him.

CIN Chris Heisey LF hasn't gotten off to a hot start in competition for an outfield spot. He's hitting .125 early in the spring and unless he can kick it into gear soon will probably find himself in AAA until around mid-season.
Our Instinct: His long term outlook is still good as a solid regular or fourth OF.
