Prospect Instinct 2012 | Eddie Rosario, 2B Minnesota Twins

by George Utter on February 20, 2012

Eddie Rosario, 2B Minnesota Twins

09/28/1991

Height: 6′ 0″ Weight: 170

The Minnesota Twins selected Eddie Rosario with the 135th pick overall in the 4th round of the 2010 Draft, taking what many people considered the best hitting prospect from Puerto Rico.  The assumption was a correct one after an impressive debut performance in the Gulf Coast League in 2010.  He picked up right where he left off in 2011 when he joined the Elizabethton Twins of the Appalachian League.  Back in October, Rosario was the focal point of our Touch’em all – Appalachian League article.

Here’s what we wrote about Rosario:

Eddie Rosario, OF Minnesota Twins - 09/28/1991 (19) - Height: 6’0″ Weight: 170 –  The “CO”-MVP of the Appalachian league, Rosario hit .337/.397/.670 for the Elizabethton Twins.  His HR-21/3B-9/2B-9/RBI-60/R-71/SB-17 in just 270 AB, complimented by this .233 IsoP are numbers you would find in a comic book.   He committed just 2 errors in 130 chances on the field as well. The 2010 4th round draft pick from Puerto Rico, in addition to being player of the year, was also named to the Appalachian league All-Star team and was player of the week 3 times on the 2011 campaign.  He should start the 2012 season with the High-A FSL Fort Myers Miracles.  My suspicion is that he will finish the season with the AA New Britain Rock Cats.  I’m not ruling out a September 2012 call up either.  He’s a stud. Baseball Instinct 2012 | Top 2B Prospects List

by Thomas Belmont on February 6, 2012

Continuing our run through the Top 10 Lists for prospects and we find ourselves here with the 2B. It leads off with a rumored position switch with Rosario and includes some high probability 2B in Wong and Spangenberg. After that the position really thins on surefire major league talent. But there are some players here who change the public opinion in 2012. So once again, let’s take a step back and take a broad look at the minor leagues as we go position by position and bring to you the Top Position Lists with some additional players and information.

Because as we said, we’ll be analyzing the Baseball Instinct 360° not only full circle, but 365 days a year. The deeper we get into the video and our customized Instinctools Stat System the more the view changes from the top.

So let’s get into the catchers position and give you the list and some of the current thoughts.

In the Top 100

Minnesota Twins23°. Eddie Rosario, OF/2B, Twins, 9/28/1991 - Rosario had an impressive debut in 2010 as an 18-year-old in the Gulf Coast League.  He hit .294 with 5 HRs and 22 SB in 194 at bats in 2010. He followed up that impressive season by displaying an awesome power/speed combination in the Appalachian League by posting a triple slash of .337/.397/.670. It was one of, if not the, best minor league performances in 2011. He still has to prove he do it against advanced pitchers and the FSL will be his first true test. He may start 2011 in Fort Myers. ETA 2014.

Update InstinctRumor still has it that, Rosario, an OF in 2011 will be making a transition to 2B. I guess the Twins think that Levi Michael will stick at SS or that they already have their SS in Brian Dozier. Either way, Rosario, seems to be in line for a shot at being a 2B. If this pans out, you have one the top bats as far as potential goes, taking on a premium position. It’s not an easy transition, and Levi Michael will be in line to slip right into the 2B of the future role if Rosario falters defensively. [click to continue…]

Prospect Instinct | Miguel Sano, 3B Minnesota Twins

by Thomas Belmont on November 24, 2011

Miguel Sano, 3B Minnesota Twins

5/11/1993

Height: 6’3″ Weight: 230

Minnesota TwinsMiguel Sano was signed by the Twins on October 9, 2009 as a non-drafted free agent for $3.15mm. Despite a drawn out investigation into his age, Sano got started as a 17 year old in the 2010 DSL, hitting .344 in 65 AB before coming stateside for his US debut in the GCL for the GCL Twins.  He likes cheese and apparently pitchers throw him enough of it that his IsoP numbers have been off the charts for a teen. In 2010 he had .203 in the DSL and then a .183 in the GCL. Despite high K rates with 60 K’s in 212 AB overall, he still managed top hit .307. It was more than enough to give us something to work with on projection beyond the international scouting reports. [click to continue…]

2011 MLB Draft | Catchers Review

by George Utter on November 12, 2011

Welcome back to our review of the 2011 draft. In this series we’re taking a look at players from the 2011 draft who signed and got into game play in 2011.  We’ve separated the High School players from the College players and compiled which players had the best season statistically.  This isn’t a prospect ranking, rather simply a report on how they did.  Right now, we are going to look at the group of Catchers.  Speaking of catchers, it was great news to see that Washington Nationals’ catcher Wilson Ramos was rescued from his abductors today.  What a very odd situation, but fortunately he’s well.  Now let’s dive into Catchers from the 2011 draft. Prospect Instinct | Kyle Gibson, RHP Minnesota Twins

by Thomas Belmont October 29, 2011

Kyle Gibson was drafted out of the the University of Missouri in the 1st round of the 2009 draft by the Twins. The #22 overall selection signed for an above slot $1.85mm in August. He was considered a Top 10 talent before coming down with a stress fracture in his forearm late in the college season. The Twins became the benefactor of other teams unwilling to take a chance on the injury.

Touch’em All | Gulf Coast League Top Baseball Prospects – Pitchers

by Thomas Belmont September 12, 2011

This is where the stars of tomorrow are playing. With the Gulf Coast League closing up shop for the 2011 season, I wanted to take a look around the league and see who some of the statistical stars were. Sure, it’s Short Season ball. Sure, most of these guys are making their U.S. debuts. But this is where it starts to become a little more clear how much you really love baseball. This is when we build our 2012 farm watch lists. You have some International signees mixed with 2011 draftees. Some of the International players spent a couple of season in the Dominican Summer League or the Venezuelan Summer League while the U.S. kids finished out their High School careers. But this is from where many of the lesser heralded prospects rise. We brought you the hitters, now let’s take a look at some of the pitchers.
